At least that's what I'm calling it.
A little background: Wife and I work at the same place, her being on a strict schedule, while not so much for me.
This morning my Bonneville was blocking in the wife's Impreza (2010 2.5i base, model pictured) so we decided to trade cars until lunch. She left in the Bonneville while I finished with the animals, cleaned the coffee pot, you know all that stuff we do to make up for being dumb gearheads always talking about cars.
Once I made it out to her car, I was greeted by a little yellow friend on the dash. Apparently, my wife thinks tires don't need air anymore, or the little flat tire with an exclamation point is for excitement!
Anyways, I break out the gauge the I leave in her center console, and the work gloves that live in hatch. Three tires are 6 lbs. down, and the fourth is down 12 lbs. Well, at least it's good enough to get to the gas station (bright side).
Our corner gas station is a Meijer's (regional super store), which is awesome, because they have a real nice compressor with an accurate gauge built in. It's one of the kind that cost 75 cents, but they turn it on for free whenever someone pulls up by the air station.
After filling up the tires and getting on the expressway, I'm now running 15 minutes late. That's starting to push my lateness comfort level.
"Oh hi there, Mr. Semi, and I see you brought your friend Mr. Dump Truck. Why don't the two of you just drive 10 mph below the speed limit, while pacing each other, and blocking two lanes for the next 5 miles."
And guess what wants to ride my ass the whole way...An effing Accord Crosstour.
Finally, I get a brake. The dump truck makes a right into the construction zone no where near an exit. Now's my chance.
The little Subie's already in sport, because why wouldn't you drive it in sport mode all the time when the throttle response is that bad? Right blinker, pass on the right (even though I hate when people do that), and step it up to about 65 (we're in a 50mph construction zone).
The damn Crosstour follows me. I should have expected that.
The construction ends just before a right hand curve that I take in the Subie at 60 during normal spirited driving. I hit it at 70 and felt the ass get a little light skipping over cracks in the asphalt. Powered out to about 80, letting the roo's awd do the thinking for me.
And still, that friggin' Crosstour is right behind me, when "Oh Shit!" I get cut off by a box truck, and a semi crossing 3 lanes to make the exit on the right after just merging with the expressway we were on. I thought I was going to have a giant stylized "H" in the back from the fucking Honda.
Now, I'm pissed.
The trucks finish their late lane changes and exit. I stuff it. The Impreza is not fast, and the Crosstour easily keeps up, following me up the exit ramp for down town.
The exit is 2 lanes curving left over very rough pavement with about an eighth mile stretch before you come to the light. The sign says 35. I have fun at 50. We were doing 70.
I made my plan. Time to flex all that Oppo given knowledge.
I enter the corner ignoring the divider line heading for the apex. A little dab of the brake to transfer the weight and get the front to turn in, then back on the gas.
Check my mirror, and watch the Crosstour panic understeer hard on the brakes.
I stop for the red and the Honda pulls up, staying at my back bumper, avoiding eye contact.
Victory is mine.
After all, it's the little victories that count. Somebody said that once, didn't they?

I know.
32,000 miles now. We're looking at a new Mazda 3 5-door in the near future.

You can drive it unitl 50kish miles or so, and Subaru will most likely step up to pay for the replacement costs. They did for me!
I'm still beyond disappointed that they failed so early though. :(

Presumably, nonchalantly shopping Subaru's. You know, to keep all his LSD in.
